Family Life (Poem-A-Day)

Cindy and Sue haven’t spoken

in weeks. Something to do

with a casserole. Jim Junior

moved to Alaska last month.

Not a word since.

Ma takes her meeting

every Thursday like church.

Makes no difference. Daddy’s

still a drunk and she

won’t leave.

No one ever says Heather’s

name. She’s dead to them.

Grandma’s dead, too,

but they talk about her

all the time.
