I searched everywhere

for a poem today. I don’t

know where I put it.

In the refrigerator, where

I once found my keys?

Buried in the sofa cushions?

It’s not under the bed.

I checked. All of my pockets

are empty, except

for fluff and dust, one

disposable lighter, a few

crumpled tissues.

I looked in the garden

but all I brought back

was rain.
