Rose Moon, open.
Strawberry Moon, fill
our mouths with sweetness.

It is the month of marriage,
weddings under arches,
long dresses and dress coats.

Women marry men, men
marry men, women marry
women, inconstant humans

promising constancy, forgetting
how you fade, how you pass
from fullness to absence; from

promise to amnesia. Bless
these brides, these grooms.
Scatter your light upon them.

“Constant in the darkness, where’s that at? If you want me I’ll be in the bar.”
Such was Joni’s experience with constancy once. (She didn’t need no piece of paper from the city hall keepin’ her tied and true.)
Ah yes, her moons and Junes and ferris wheels….

What a wonderful poem. The third stanza was especially poignant.

Bless us all as we pass away slowly or at least wave at us as we drive by.

Oh we are indeed inconstant. Would life be worth anything if we weren’t?
