Snapshot Poem

Photo by uncle mike in knoxville

Lunar Eclipse

Snow Moon, Hunger Moon,
for too long, the larders
have been empty.

The dead come to us
in dreams. They speak
but we cannot hear them.

The woods are quiet.
Only the hiss of spiders
in the snow.

The fire is banked.
The children sleep.
Cold sighs at the door.

Snow Moon,
Hunger Moon,
tonight the sky

will eat you.

    Delightful.
I will miss it tonight, now that the clouds are back in Portland. Sigh. At least I have this.

Strong emotions and fear, but also hope.

I love the last stanza of this, there is something mystical about a lunar eclipse, i missed this one (and wrote a poem about missing it) but I saw one severl years ago, watched it for ages, wonderful experience

Excellent – picture and words. Myths of the moon are fascinating!

oh i like that.. the eclipse is an amazing event… i often wonder what men thought when they viewed it for the firs time… did they think it was the end of the world?????

I love the way each stanza looks like its own moon. And then that last line by itself with the moon almost gone! Very well crafted!

Phew! I’ve got this image of the sky taking a bite out of the moon!
