Thursday Poetry

Some folks have stepped in to fill the gap left by the ending of Poetry Thursday.
Jill, a.k.a. jillypoet and Carolee, a.k.a. The Polka-Dot Witch have seeded fertile ground:

With proper care and favorable weather, this humble patch of land will be a place where poets can have fun and experience joy!

It will also provide

  • inspiration
  • critique
  • positive reinforcement
  • support through the hard work of editing

and Mike at Word Anger and Tiel at Knocking From Inside have created Totally Optional Prompts:

Totally Optional Prompts button
We created this site because we miss Poetry Thursday and believe there
should be a weekly prompt devoted strictly to poetry. Every Saturday
evening (or thereabouts) you will find a new weekly prompt on this
site, and by the following Thursday morning there will be a post ready
to receive people’s responses.

Both of these look promising, and each seems to fill a somewhat different niche, so I’m hoping that both take off.

I’m a bit poemed out today, so I’ll post an older piece — a much different style than lately:

juneau on a clear day/ or,
    haiku water balloons

august wind. . .
green leaf
    flutters down

sequined water        flashing
float plane                 shadow

salty taste
i imagine
    your skin

    round moon
radio towers
       rising

northern lights
falling star

gulls cry
on the water

From this drier land, a wish for you to have a happy, poemy, Thursday.

I’m captivated by this. The title is perfect…the second stanza brought me right there in person, I can smell the water and taste the salt.

The idea of gulls crying on water fascinates me, somehow. Good job.

Thank you, all, for visiting & commenting.
This poem reminds me of one of the best reasons to write poems: years later, the poem can bring that day back to you, in all its senses.

Lovely images and the feelings they evoke in your haiku! And I love your Flickr squirrel photos.
    🙂
