Howard Fineman on Countdown

Fineman, to Olberman, re: UAE port purchase:

The President has a lot of credibility when he claims ignorance.

I swear. I heard it.

If it wasn’t so sad, it would be funny!
As it is, I laughed out loud! That sort of, I told you so laugh.
    Love the poem!
Don’t loose faith in Liberialism, remember it is a flickering moment of what is best in our capacity for reason and fantasy. History is not for the faint of heart — it is too grim, to full of grimy days to be an acount of what is best about human beings.

Harris would say, reason is not for the faint of heart; but we have no choice but to confront unreason (to cease our liberal tolerance of religion and its violence) if we are to survive.

Some of the greatest crimes of the last century were perpetrated by those who extolled the virtues of Reason and/or dialectical materialism.
But at this point, if we want to survive, we have to confront consumerism and the sorceror’s apprentice known erroneously as the free market. As an environmentalist, I am as dour as any conservative about the capacity of human beings to face up to tough realities. It’s not a right vs. left thing; almost all our leaders and opinion-makers conspire in the peddling of irresponsible fantasies of unlimited growth. I’m still waiting for any national politician with the courage to tell us that it has to stop, that we can’t eat our cake and have it too.
Anyway, though, the quote made me laugh. Thanks.
