Blue parakeet

Blue Sky Day

In which Blue,
Blue budgie,
little Blue God,
Blue bird
of Happiness

teaches his human
new tricks.

                        Fly
from the sun-
room to the high-
est kitchen shelf.

Wait in a teacup.

Call her.
Call again.

Hop on her finger.
Reward with tipped
head and encouraging
chirps. Allow her
to carry you
to the last step.

Then lift.
And repeat.

Now and then
let her return you
to your perch.
Intermittent
reinforcement
is the best kind.

not really a poem, I know — but it is what I have.

  5. Friday Ark

Cats, Dogs, Spiders and ? every Friday. I’ll post links to sites that have Friday (plus or minus a few days) photos of their chosen animals as I see them (no photoshops and no humans). Leave a comment or trackback to this post or email me and I’ll add …

  6. We always had parakeets when I was little. My dad would win them at the San Gennaro’s feast. A long tradition of birds named Lucky.

  7. Delightful. A clever reversal of the relationship – entirely appropriate in the case of cats, of course, but I’d never thought of it as the case with birds too!
