Falling

Well, I’ve managed to fall up the stairs.  I’ve done this before, and I know there is likely to be a several-day consequence of pain and stiffness.

This blog has a small readership, mostly of other folks with this illness, and I’m wondering — do you do this, too?  A moment of inattention; a hurried, thoughtless motion — and down I go.  I will do all the right things, a hot bath, and perhaps an extra pain pill before sleep; maybe I can escape the payback.  Sometimes I can.

This is a drag, isn’t it?  At least I’ve been reminded, again, to pay attention; to be in the moment.

My worst fall was when I thought rollerblading would be good exercise for someone with CFS(!) On my first outing I fell straight onto mt backside and couldn’t move for days because of the stiffness and had to spend two weeks in bed. The rollerblades are sitting in a cupboard unused for three years now.

Just now I’m seeming particularly clumsy. I dropped things on two occasions yesterday. Lots of mess to clear up.

I hope the hot bath helps.

Rollerblading! Realism is hard, isn’t it?

Thanks, Michael — it’s not as bad as it could be, I can move, and the dogs got their walk this morning. If it was slower than usual, no harm.

Hmmm… I do seem to recall doing that. Not very fun. But I think it’s been awhile. Maybe we go through phases of different kinds of imbalances… I tend to lean toward the mental ones. 😉 Glad you can still move. 🙂

    Ouch that must have hurt!
Feel better soon and yes, be careful and don’t go too fast on those stairs 🙂
(although I’m guilty of this too)

Falling is one of the worst consequences of having this problem. I always feel like such a clumsy fool when I fall… it’s just one of the things I don’t think I’ll ever adjust to.

I realize this is an old entry, but I just discovered your blog 🙂

Yes, i’ve falled up the stairs. I’ve managed to fall on the bed while still in the bed, too. I’m talented that way.
