Erosion

The kestrel is hunting in my garden again today; a garden that saw a
brief flurry of snow yesterday, but is now bare. I have been feeling
tired, physically, emotionally, spiritually. I think, ‘my heart is
breaking’ — but that is not exactly it — it’s more like erosion. My
heart is eroding.

The photographs from Fallujah — which I will not link to here, but
they are easily found; the loss and dismembering of lives there, in the
Sudan, in so many places — and not by acts of god.  The preoccupation here, and there, not with god, but with religion.

They say we may be hard-wired with the need for worship, for god, for
some kind of spirituality. I think some of us may be hard-wired for
logic and rationality as well, and such a dilemma this creates.

The kestrel takes a sparrow from the fence; the light fades earlier each day; and I am so tired.

  1. Take heart, for even as it seems that civilization itself is eroding, we are in fact a more life-loving, human rights-respecting, helping, caring people than we have ever been. Read history to confirm it is so. We just are not as yet perfect.

  2. Just came to your site after reading some Iraqi blogs. I felt down, very tired. Needed something beautiful or peaceful, as I often find here.
I find: “My heart is eroding.” Thank you. Just the right words and image. The beauty of your words.

  3. An excellent way to describe the inner disappearance of our hopes and joys, of our life essence — after truly seeing what is going on in the name of religion and politics. Erosion.
My thoughts are with you, with all of us during these times. I send out big hugs, to The World.

  4. How to hold on to Hope when it turn away to hide.
You are not the only one to feel that. I too feel that way. Trying to hang on something, that will pull you out. A few poem help but reality love to come back in your face.
So maybe time will find something that will help. Something has to give, people can’t live on the edge without something happening. Wether or not it’s good or bad. It just break the tension.
However one peice of good news. I decide to return to my blog. I’m getting out of Xanga and keeping the Typepad account 🙂

  5. With the days so short,
And winter so cold and deep,
    Spring is close indeed.
