Sunset on the Sangre de Cristo Mountainsfor Judd Polivka 1940-1992

In afternoon, sun
becomes more precious, spare
near evening, as it falls
toward that spot, there

on the mountain. That far
spot, where trees thin
and shale shows through.

You can see the shape
of the world there
at the curving edge
of sky.

In the last moment
sagebrush burns
red. Then

stars. Pale
and countless
as dust

       as ashes.

Is this Judd Polivka whose family had a restaurant/inn in Illinois many years ago?

  2. Yes, it is.

  3. thank you for bringing Judd to me again. He volunteered at SAGE with me and his wit (sweet and dry at the same time) was a welcome balance to the madness around us. I miss you so often dear friend.

  4. Sunset/Judd – Unique .. most definitely …. always eye-twinkles nurtured by his somewhat impish grin given to and gladly welcomed by those he cared for and about ….. you too obviously one of the fortunate ones — Thank you for sharing — 10 27 39

  5. I will always love the memories of what Judd did for me 30 years ago, I had no Idea he was gone….but never forgotten.
