Summer Solstice, Sitka, Alaska 1993

winged-woman

This day blooms
under wide meadows
of sky. We lay
our sun-stunned bodies
in constellations
of clover and buttercups.

Salmonberry bubbles
of sweet red light
break on our tongues.
Shooting stars
in the flowerbeds,
pollen in our sheets.

  4. Exactly what Patia said. YUM, and um…..

  8. Oh. Salmonberries!
I adore them (and this poem).

  9. I was in Sitka for the 2005 solstice. Your poem brings back the whole sensual experience…aromas, sounds, wind,…the pace of being able to soak the entire experience inward.
