Playing With Shape

I know that concrete poetry is out of fashion, but I think that sometimes a poem demands to be shaped in this way. Now and then I find some I really like. Here are two, the first by Jon Corelis and the second by Anny Ballardini (posted here with their permission):

I doubt that these poets set out to write their poems in these shapes; I think it’s more likely that they began to write, and each poem insisted on taking the shape it finally did.

But I could be wrong. Perhaps the poets will come here and enlighten us?

  1. Hi dear Sharon,
thank you very much for hosting this slithery (as you say) silly (as I do) pOm on your Watermark. And yes, that handful of words I wanted to write with the S_ssound found their own way through as per shape, to which I could also add meaning.

  2. I love this!!! Wonderful!!

  3. Cool…I had no idea that this kind of poetry had a name.
