Carnival of the Cats #99 ~ Valentine Edition

Antiracism

My cats and I are against racism in any form.
A special note for Valentine’s Day, from LucyRand.

The cats below are Prairie Mary’s companions, but her blog is too {ahem} dignified, grownup [and] sophisticated for cat photos. Apparently, she is unaware that this blog was in the New York Times! For cat blogging!

*Sigh* So soon they forget.

But, since Crackers and Squibbs (who seem to be rather explosive characters) can’t be in the Carnival, they’ve agreed to present the Carnival, with the kind photographic and literary assistance of their human servant, who clearly does not adequately appreciate how dignified, grownup [and] sophisticated they are.

blonde cat & calico cat, hugging on a bed

I’m this big blonde cat named Crackers,
who ought to be Brunnhilde and carry a spear,
but I only work for praise and some snackers.
This is largely the reason that I’m still right here.

That other cat is my sister Squibbs.
I’d rather eat but she’d rather fight.
Somehow this calico always has dibs
But I patiently watch until she takes flight.

We’re only posing together in order to show
on Valentine’s Day it’s good to love, so….
Sorry we only know how to write doggerel.
All we can say is Holy Mackerel.

Here at Watermark we have Cat Valentine

There’s a lot to like in this Carnival, but I have a favorite. Perhaps it’s impolite for a host to have a favorite, but this is the Valentine Carnival, and Valentine’s Day is all about favorites, right? So, my favorite is:  Friday cat begging, from Dave Bonta at Via Negativa.

Next week’s Carnival will be at Bloggin Out Loud.

May we all have lots of love, plenty of purrs, sufficient sunlight, and at least a little dark chocolate on Valentine’s Day.

If I’ve neglected anyone, please let me know. And a word to our enthusiastic newbies: let me suggest a visit to the Carnival home page
and a quick review of the guidelines — even a visit to previous
carnivals. These carnivals are lots of fun, and lots of work. Granted
that some of us may go a bit overboard, but even a simple carnival
takes a lot of time and work (I advise beginning your post several days
ahead of time.)  This is one reason I prefer that folks use the The Carnival Submission Form — it’s still a lot of cutting & pasting, but it’s easier cutting and pasting — thank you, Ferdy.

    Off the deep end

While some say the blizzard comes, and some say no, the Babe ventures out onto the front porch — shoveled not long before by the Tuckman but now quickly reaccumulating more snow (left) — and then ventures off the deep

It’s not bad at all to have a favorite. Especially when you work so hard putting this together.
Great job as always, and I look forward to the Carnivals you have yet to craft in the future.

    Thanks, Laurence.
And a special thanks to Squibs & Crackers and their well-humored human.
Also, it’s been pointed out to me that the meant-to-be loving message at the top of the post, due to an unfortunate coincidence of timing, might be considered a comment on current events. This was in no way intended.
My cats support me in my point of view that, while I may be completely opposed to a given opinion, I will adamantly defend the right for it to be expressed.

Well, now these two explosive cats are demanding little wee director’s chairs with their names on them. I’ve pointed out that they already occupy BOTH of my reading chairs most of the time, but they are unmoved. They say their agent will be by to have a little talk.
But they also say to thank you for the exposure and the kind comments. They are happy to be on such a distinguished NYTimes recognized BLOG.
